The Department provides strategic advice and technical support for policy bureaux and government departments in conducting publicity programmes to arouse greater public awareness of matters in the public interest.

The publicity campaigns conducted with support of the Department cover a wide range of topics from Fire Safety, Fight Crime, Anti-Mosquito and Anti-drug to Promotion of Road Safety.

Most of these campaigns are sustained throughout the year, and employ a wide variety of publicity and advertising means including TV and radio commercials and special programmes, exhibitions, community involvement activities and a host of print materials.

Campaign themes and strategies are mapped out in conjunction with client departments and relevant working groups or steering committees.

In addition, the Department will also provide assistance to promoting awareness of long-standing issues and civic responsibilities such as Civic Education, Occupational Safety, Slope Maintenance, AIDS Awareness, Electrical Products Safety and Against Child Abuse.
